Megan's Méribel - handpicked favourites
05/03/22
In partnership with ski experts Skiyodl, we caught up with local mountain lover Megan, to give us the lowdown on Méribel ski resort in France, at the heart of Les 3 Vallées.
What brought you to Méribel?
M: I’ve grown up holidaying in the three valleys, and when Covid hit the opportunity to work remotely came with it (one good thing to come out of the pandemic!). I decided to uproot in December 2020 and haven’t looked back since.

What made you want to stay?
M: The mountain air, the freedom, the weather, the people, the community, the activities, the skiing, the seasons, the a-typical life style… the list goes on 🙂

What do you love the most about Méribel?
M: The community of people that live here year round are just amazing, I’ve never experienced small town living and I’m now addicted! Coupled with the instant access to some of the most beautiful hikes in the world – win win!
Megans's favourite après spot in Méribel?
M: It has to be LDV for live music. It’s Megan’s favourite après spot in Méribel. LDV is in Méribel Village at 1400m. 100m from the end of the blue Lapin piste/base of the Golf chairlift. It’s a great spot to grab lunch or end your day. Come sunshine, the terrace opens to the blue skies, live music and flowing drinks and the huge umbrella keeps out the snow on the colder days.

Favourite mountain restaurant?
M: On-mountain restaurant Adray Télébar is Megan’s go-to when she’s skiing. Whether you pop in for a morning coffee, lunch on the sun trap of a south-facing terrace, a quick pit stop of blueberry waffles or a hearty evening meal, Adray’s gives you great food with a view. Serving traditional dishes and Savoy specialities such as raclette, fondue and tartiflette. There’s a great regional wine list to accompany the spectacular views down the valley.
So, Megan...
The best thing about where you live?
M: My view. I sit on my balcony every morning with a coffee looking at Mont Valon and just can’t believe how lucky I am to call this place home.

The best local experience you should try?
M: The Via Ferattas (high altitude climbing routes) are amazing to try if you’re not too scared of heights.

Where to have a fondue?
M: La Fromagerie is Megan’s pick of the best spots in town for Fondue or any Savoyard dish for that matter. It's originally a creamery founded in December 1980 to supply the best farm cheeses from the Alps. Then they added the Savoie wines and mountain cured meats from their neighbours in Valle d’Aosta. Finally, they opened the restaurant in the cellar to serve us their cheesy delights.
Best Burger in Meribel?
M: Chez Bif in Méribel Mottaret does a spectacular burger. Perfect for a quick lunch. on the slopes. Dirty, tasty and damn cheesy – burgers the way they were meant to be. Even their stash sells like wildfire. Beware the burgers, or the dirty hot dogs for that matter, are not for the faint hearted. Expect a whopper that’s a challenge to tackle! Make sure you get there before 3pm (they close early). You’ll be eating out, there’s no eating in. Make sure to get some ‘full send’ sauce.
Favourite coffee shop?
Hard one… the Adray is great. There’s an uber posh one on the Rhodos piste below the bubble car, but I can never remember the name of it as it keeps changing. The Castors in the Chaudanne (the main lift base from Méribel is pretty good for coffee as well.
Favourite pizza place?
The new pizza oven at Le Rastro is divine. Up in Méribel Mottaret, right on the snow front, you can’t miss it. Opposite the Plattières gondola. It may not look like the hippest spot at first glance, but it’s a diamond in the rough. Great food, friendly, awesome location. We’ll let the pizza speak for itself.
Where to find lunch with a view?
M; “I love the view from Les Pierres Plates, hard to beat” – Megan
She’s not wrong. There’s even a little Matterhorn to spy on. The terrace is the highlight, though the cosy interiors are worth checking out if you don’t want your food getting cold. You are getting towards the Courchevel price hikes here but it’s not ridiculous. You pay for the position, and it’s hard to beat this one. Great for a long mountain lunch stop.
Your ultimate Méribel restaurant?
M: We’ve been hiking A LOT. My two best hikes from this summer are Dent Du Villard up from Lac de la Rosiere, and Lac de Vache in Pralagnon. I live right on the edge of the national park in Mottaret, so we’ve done a few sunset and sunrise hikes up there which have been rad.
L'Atelier du Raffort is the restaurant Méribel has been waiting for. It’s a farm to table concept run by a husband wife team and their passion for cooking you can spectacularly taste in the food. It's the kind of place you’d expect bone marrow to be on the menu. And if you like that sort of thing, you’ll love everything on the menu. You’ll have to book and even that can be tricky getting a table as they only serve around 20 covers. So worth booking well in advance.
What cool stuff have you been up to recently?
What are you listening to at the moment?
M: Jazz music at my local ‘remote office’ Jacks bar…
